Greetings from the Abbey!
Our summer Day of Recollection is on the Saturday after the Solemnity of Saint Benedict (11 July) – this year, Saturday 15 July.
This year, the monastery lost three monks: Abbot Patrick Regan, the fourth abbot of the monastery (1982-2001), who died on 8 February; Brother Michael Langlois, who died on 20 March; and Father Paul Miranne, who died on 30 March. Each of them was an unusually significant member of the monastic community. But to many of our Oblates, they were perhaps little known: their most active years were behind them. Because of this, I thought I would reflect on their lives and contributions to the community in the conferences this summer.
The schedule for the day will be as follows:
- 8:30 am Arrival/Registration (Seminary Refectory)
- 9:30 Conference (Abbey Church)
- 10:00 Reflection/Reconciliation
- 11:15 Mass, followed by lunch with the monks
- 1:30 p.m. Conference
- Reception of Oblate Novices
- Oblation of Novices completing their novitiate
- Renewal of Oblation for all
- 2:45 p.m. Departure
Please inform us as soon as possible if you plan to attend the Day of Recollection. You may do this in one of two ways: by phone at (985) 867-2299 extension 1245; or by registering here.
Inquirers who have attended at least one previous Day of Recollection (or some of the monthly Oblate Chapter Meetings) and wish to be enrolled as Oblate Novices, please indicate this. Novices who have completed their novice year and wish to make Oblation, please indicate this as well. Please note that only those who have pre-registered to be received as novices or to make oblation may do so.
We are also in need of volunteers to help with registration and other matters for the day – please note in your response if you are willing to help.
I look forward to being with you and praying with you!
Yours in our holy father Benedict,
Fr. Aelred Kavanagh, O.S.B.
